No two pieces are alike. Grain, knots, and figure are different in every piece of wood, so every item that leaves the shop is its own. That is where the name - Sovereign Woodshop - comes from.I'm Joe, and Sovereign Woodshop is my one-man shop on Bainbridge Island, Washington. I build furniture like dining tables, benches, coffee tables, and console tables from solid hardwoods like cherry, maple and walnut. I leave the character of the wood in view - natural edges, visible joinery, grain you can follow from one end of a board to the other. I make smaller items too, such as bowls, cutting boards, and custom shelves.Every piece is made to order. You choose the size, the wood, and the details. Console Table
Cut from a curly maple burl, this console table is the kind of piece that becomes the focal point of a room. It stands 32" high and 50" wide, with a substantial 2.5" thick top.The burl's swirling figure and the natural undulating edges were left as the tree grew them rather than squared off. Beneath the top, the legs are joined with hand cut joinery and round stretchers, with exposed joinery left visible.Every burl is different, so no two console tables will ever match. Dining Table
Built for long meals and deep conversations, this nine-foot dining table and its two matching benches seat ten to twelve.The table and benches are made from cherry, a wood that deepens in color over the years. Wide boards show off the grain and subtle figure, and the small natural variations make this set unlike any other. The edges are softly shaped rather than machined to perfection, so the top feels organic and inviting. Black powder-coated metal legs keep the base quiet and let the wood lead.The benches share the same wood and the same legs as the table, so the whole set reads as one piece.Because every piece is handmade, dimensions, seating and details can be tailored to your space. Hallway Bench
This live edge maple bench is made for entryways, hallways and the foot of a bed. It measures 60" long, 13" deep and 17" high, with a 1.5" thick top.The live edge is left intact, so the natural contour of the tree and the character along it become the focal point. Knots and grain variation run across the seat and are part of what makes it individual.Slim, tapered black metal legs lift the top and keep the lines light.
